What's Going On?—California and the Vietnam Era

Ken and Julia and I went to the Oakland museum to see this exhibit yesterday. A very interesting and moving look at the historical involvement of California in this war. There are exhibits from military bases in California, the war protests, and items concerning Vietnamese immigrants. For more info, click here.

2 DVD's look at war

Recently we watched FOG OF WAR. It's a documentary that goes back to look at war through interviews, films, and taped conversations with Robert McNamara. This "master of war" comes across as very appealling and honest. Very thought provoking!

TAKING SIDES is the story of Wilhelm Furtwangler, a great German conductor who stayed in Germany during the war. Also thought provoking, a look at the artist in extreme circumstances. How would you or I have behaved?

A visit from Kirsten and Bill

My cousin Kirsten and her partner Bill came for a visit last week. We had time to talk and saw all three of my kids. This picture was taken on San Simeon beach near San Luis Obispo the day we went down to visit Daniel. A fine time, come back soon!

Arghhhhhh?!

Still recovering from the election of George W Bush. I am uncharacteristically speechless. This is part of a Bad Reporter cartoon from the San Francisco Chronicle.

If Kerry had won Ohio and hence the election by the electoral college, he still could have lost the popular vote by more than 2 million. Interesting.
