A fine day

My daughter moved back to California a couple of months ago. Good news! Today she joined us for brunch at Louis's, a good diner just up the hill from the Cliff House in San Francisco. Then we all went to Half Moon Bay to do a little shopping and to get a Christmas tree.

Station Agent

There was quite a buzz about this movie when it came out. We saw it on DVD and really enjoyed it. A sweet, positive film that was skillfully crafted on a low budget. Check it out.

Catfish and Mandala

I just finished this non-fiction account of Andrew Pham's trip through Vietnam. He had little money, so he travelled by bicycle, ate and lodged at dives, and tried to meet local people. A rather disturbing account of his life, his family, and the very mixed reception that he got in Vietnam. A good book, but not a relaxing escapist road trip book.

Motorcycle Diaries

Sunday we saw this movie which is based on Che Guevara's diary of a road trip through South America in 1952. I read the book about 10 years ago. A good movie that made me want to visit South America.
